HPRP PROFILE
The Michigan Health Professional Recovery Program (HPRP) was established by state law in 1993. The HPRP is administered through a contract with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), Bureau of Professional Licensing, and supported by various health professional licensing boards, associations, and societies. The HPRP has a dual role in protecting public safety and supporting the recovery of its participants so they may safely continue to work in their practice.
The HPRP follows the national standards for professional monitoring programs regarding drug screening protocols and treatment expectations while a health care professional is being monitored.
Participation in the HPRP is voluntary. Regardless of how a licensee is referred to the program, the licensee ultimately decides whether to participate. However, they are informed that choosing not to participate after a referral will result in notification to LARA.
